Privacy Policy
1. Introduction
Tradefaire runs the mobile app and website at tradefaire.app (we call this the “Service”). This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and your choices. It covers the marketplace, payments, escrow, messaging, and everything on Tradefaire.
By signing up or using Tradefaire, you agree to this policy and our Terms of Service. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
2. Information we collect
We get information from you directly, automatically when you use the app or site, and sometimes from companies that help us run the Service.
What you give us
When you create an account, buy or sell, use escrow, or contact us, you may provide:
- Account details: name, username, email, phone number, profile photo, password or sign in details, and account settings.
- Identity and verification details: date of birth, nationality, government ID, passport details, tax ID, and bank account details where needed for payouts, KYC, or compliance.
- Seller and business details: store or company name, business description, CAC registration, business licences, import or export permits, VAT details, pickup addresses, and authorised representatives.
- Orders and transactions: delivery addresses, order history, cart items, shipping details, payment records, invoices, escrow records, refund requests, order messages, dispute details, and wallet activity.
- Content you post: product photos and videos, stories, reviews, questions, wishlists, listings, prices, and other posts you share.
- Messages to us: support requests and feedback.
- Notification choices: whether you want optional order alerts by SMS or other messaging channels you choose, and the phone number you give us for that.
What we collect automatically
- Device and app info: device type, browser, operating system, app version, language, IP address, device identifiers, and push notification token.
- How you use Tradefaire: product and store views, feed activity, searches, checkout steps, and use of features like discovery and communities.
- Location: approximate or precise location if you allow it. We use this for delivery estimates, nearby discovery, and address suggestions. You can turn location off in your device settings.
- Logs and diagnostics: login history, session data, cookies, server timestamps, crash reports, and error logs to keep the Service running and fix problems.
What we get from others
- Sign-in options: if you sign in through an external account, we receive only the basic profile details your settings allow for that sign-in method.
- Payments: our payment processors send us payment status and transaction references. We do not store your full card number or CVV. Card data is handled under those processors’ own privacy policies.
- Delivery: delivery status, tracking updates, and carrier information for your shipments.
- Verification: results from identity or business checks when we need to verify sellers or meet regulatory requirements.
3. How we use your information
We use your information to:
- Create and manage your account and sign you in
- Run the marketplace: listings, search, checkout, orders, payouts, and escrow
- Process payments and wallet transactions
- Arrange shipping and delivery for your orders
- Send order updates by push, email, in-app messages, and optional SMS or messaging alerts if you opt in
- Answer support requests and handle disputes
- Verify sellers and buyers, detect fraud, and investigate complaints
- Meet legal requirements, including AML, KYC, tax, customs, and court orders
- Show you products and content that may interest you
- Send marketing where allowed and where you have not opted out
- Measure how the app performs, fix bugs, and improve the Service
- Enforce our Terms and respond to lawful requests
You can opt out of marketing at any time.
4. Why we can use your data (Nigeria)
Tradefaire is built for users in Nigeria. We handle personal data under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 (NDPA) and, where it applies, the Nigeria Data Protection Regulation (NDPR). Depending on what we are doing, we rely on:
- Contract: we need your data to provide the Service you signed up for, including accounts, orders, payments, escrow, and delivery.
- Consent: for things like optional message alerts, marketing, and precise location where the law requires your permission.
- Legitimate interests: for security, fraud prevention, analytics, and improving the app, balanced against your rights.
- Legal obligation: when tax, AML/KYC, regulatory, or law enforcement rules require it.
5. Who we share information with
We do not sell your personal information. We may share it with:
- Other users: information you make public (profile, listings, reviews) and order details needed to complete a sale. For example, a seller sees your delivery address for their order.
- Delivery services: name, address, phone number, and shipping instructions needed to deliver your order.
- Banks and payment processors: companies that process payments, hold funds in escrow, or help prevent fraud on your transaction.
- Vendors who support the Service: companies that help us host, operate, secure, and support Tradefaire (for example infrastructure, email, messaging, analytics, and customer support tools). We do not publish a public list of those vendors.
- Professional advisers: lawyers, auditors, or insurers when reasonably needed.
- Government and regulators: when the law requires it, including court orders, tax or customs inquiries, or to protect rights, safety, and security.
- A new owner: if Tradefaire is merged, acquired, or sells assets. Any new owner must follow this policy.
These parties only use your data for the purposes we agree with them, and we put safeguards in place where required.
6. Optional message alerts
If you turn on optional message alerts in Settings, we save your choice and the phone number you provide. We may send messages about orders - such as new order requests, acceptance reminders, and delivery updates - through SMS or other messaging channels available in the app.
- These alerts are optional and off by default
- You can turn them off anytime in the app or by contacting support
- Messages sent through an external channel may also be subject to that channel’s own terms and privacy policy
- We keep logs of delivery attempts (status, template used, errors) to fix problems and meet compliance requirements
7. Cookies and similar technologies
Our website uses basic cookies and local storage to keep you signed in and the site working. The mobile app stores session tokens and preferences securely on your device. We and companies that support the Service may also use similar technologies for performance, analytics, and fraud prevention. You can disable cookies in your browser settings, but some features may not work properly without them.
8. How long we keep data
We keep your information while your account is active and for as long as we need it to run the Service, follow the law, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. For example:
- Order and payment records are kept for as long as the law requires for accounting and disputes
- Account data stays until you delete your account, unless the law requires us to keep it longer
- We keep opt out records so we respect your marketing choices
- Logs and diagnostics are usually kept for a limited time, unless we need them for a security investigation
When we no longer need the data, we delete it, anonymise it, or archive it securely.
9. Security
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your data, including encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS), access controls, server side payment checks, secure sign in, and monitoring. Where available, we support two factor authentication. No online system is perfectly secure. Use a strong password and keep your device protected.
10. Data outside Nigeria
Our systems and companies that support the Service may process data in Nigeria and other countries. When data leaves Nigeria, we use safeguards that meet NDPA requirements.
11. Your rights and choices
Under Nigerian law, you may have the right to:
- Ask for a copy of your personal data
- Correct wrong information in your profile or by contacting us
- Delete your account and related data (subject to legal retention rules)
- Withdraw consent for optional uses (such as message alerts or marketing)
- Object to or limit certain processing
- File a complaint with the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC)
To use these rights, email support@tradefaire.app. We may ask you to confirm your identity first.
Push notifications: change these in your device settings
or in Tradefaire notification preferences.
Location: change these in your device privacy settings.
Message alerts: turn off in Settings under notification
preferences.
Marketing: use the unsubscribe link in a message or email
support.
12. Children
Tradefaire is not for anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you think a child gave us data, contact us and we will delete it.
13. Other services
Tradefaire may link to other websites or services. We also work with external companies to run payments, delivery, hosting, messaging, and related functions. We do not publicly name those companies in this policy. We are not responsible for how those parties handle your data under their own policies. Check any external service’s privacy terms before you share information directly with them.
14. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the new version on this page and update the “Last updated” date. For important changes, we may also tell you in the app or by email. If you keep using Tradefaire after an update, that means you accept the new policy.
